The Green Party stood for the first time in Whitestone in the 2009 County Council elections. The party took 14% of the vote in the ward and was just 3.5% behind Labour.

After the election it was established that the winning Tory, Cllr Martin Heatley, has been making excessive travel claims for decades. He claiming twice for one trip to conference, claimed for meetings he had not attended and claiming excessive mileage for many trips. He was ordered to apologise to the council and pay back just £200 of the thousands wrongly claimed. He sets on the cabinet at the county council and is in charge of the council’s finances.

The Green party candidate in the local election will be Gregg Olner.
